Crop response similar to that of black plastic mulch.
Completely Biodegradable -- till or disk in at end of season.
Good weed control (including nutsedge)
Soil moisture retention and nutrient conservation -- can be used with drip irrigation.
No labor required for field removal (Degrades in field)
Black Paper Mulch 4' x 100'
Many growers and gardeners seek an alternative to plastic mulch that is environmentally friendly and does not require labor for field removal. Planters Paper offers most of the benefits for black plastic film, and it naturally degrades in the soil. This biodegradable mulch contains no harmful ingredients, and leaves no harmful residues in the soil.
Although it does not stretch like plastic, the paper mulch still has the strength needed for mechanical installation and can be used with drip irrigation.
However, the paper can degrade prematurely along the edges if it is secured with a single layer of soil. Because the paper naturally expands when wet and shrinks when dry, it can tear along the edges of the soil line and lift in the wine. to prevent this, secure the edges on the paper with additional soil periodically throughout the season.
